Thank you for your interest in Golden Endeavors. We are dedicated breeders, exhibitors and handlers & lovers of Golden Retrievers. We have been involved in Goldens since 1983 and Sherri has been showing in the breed ring since 1987. Sherri has also trained dogs in obedience and field. In 1995 she earned a CD (companion dog) obedience title on our first breed champion "Maggie" (Ch. Kanosak’s Goldendeavor of Nome, Am./Can CDX) and also one of four legs required for the Junior Hunter (JH) award. “Suds” finished her championship in ’97 with many impressive accomplishments including a Best in Sweeps. Ch. Birchollow’s Sassy Endeavor is Sudsy’s first champion get. Our sweetest household Champ (and Sud’s grandson), “Ripple” (by Ch. Burbs ex Abbey) finished his Championship in 2003 against heavy mid-west competition at the International KC shows in Chicago. Sud’s grandaughter “Penny” and Penny’s daughter, “Lolli” followed suit in 2004; along with our cherished “Farm Fresh” addition “Lacy”! All the Endeavors Goldens are outstanding movers, performers, workers, and house pets. Ripple and his mom, “Abbey” are described here at home as the perfect “classic” Goldens. We are also mighty proud of the get Rip and Penny are producing as well…. “Odin” (Rip &Penny’s son) easily finished his championship, and is now Ch. Endeavors Golden Odin, CD! Titles at both ends! If these brags aren’t enough, “Penny” also gave us our delightful Ch. Endeavors Walk in the Park. From our sister program driven by our dear friend, Arden Seuberling, “Connor” (Ch. Karleigh’s Crimson N Clover) is making gramma “Suds” and Sherri very proud as he climbs to “Show Dog Hall of Fame” (SDHF) status! See Connor at www.karleighsgold.com. All the CH. titles in the world cannot stand alone here though…..there is just more to it than that!
At Golden Endeavors our primary goal is to breed SOUNDNESS in structure, temperament and health; to breed a well rounded, confident, multipurpose dog. We do not like to discriminate between "show" and "pet" quality. Do pet owners deserve any less? And aren’t all all show dog owners loving “pet owners” as well??! All of our pup buyers deserve QUALITY & RESPECT, regardless of their personal objectives in acquiring an Endeavors pup. Pups are evaluated and placed according to the type of homes available and not according to “pick”. The appropriate home for pups is determined based on the buyers intentions, fit between “personality” and home/family environment, personal objectives and other factors determined by both the breeder and buyer, together. For example, a high energy, willing to please pup with strong retrieving ability but not a lot of coat may be best placed in an obedience or field priority home; whereas a medium energy but confident dog that moves gracefully may be placed in a conformation priority home. Sometimes an energetic pup is best suited to a “show” home (or active/outdoorsy home), whereas an easy going, less dominant pup is often best in a family or elders environment. Smaller babes often are best suited to smaller yards & homes. Simply put. In general we strive to breed an adaptable, multipurpose retriever for all.
Though pedigrees and clearances are important, ultimately a sound dog will be prioritized for show exhibition and breeding opportunities. The appropriate preparation of show & breeding stock is considered the key to their success in both. A show dog must look and feel like a winner….to be a winner. At Golden Endeavors we insist that you are actively involved in the preparation and maintenance of your dog’s condition and training for the ring; and as well as a revered family companion. Your level of education & involvement will strongly effect the result of your dog’s campaign and/or future; as well as future breeding success. It is then our job to mentor & create the “finished” product….ha, ha! And herein lies the challenge!.
At Golden Endeavors we raise all our Goldens as family members. They are always our pets first. While you and your pup are with us, whether just as a babe in the box, or later for mentoring, training and/or for a show; we will include him in our regular routine as if he’s our own. We expect that our pup owners will do this as well at home. We believe in the daytime use of indoor/outdoor kennel facilities, pens or secure fenced areas, as well as crate training. But none of these should be used as a surrogate for good, old fashioned attention and love on a daily basis. A Golden Retriever is a wonderful house pet and worker too, but only if he/she has been properly exercised and trained. A Golden (especially a pup) is excitable and energetic. Use of the crate training method of your choice will help your pup distinguish play from rest time. He/she will require at least two outdoor, free run periods of 15-30 minutes daily in order to be able to act appropriately in the home. We do not condone raising any dog as a “kennel” dog, nor the use of “tie outs”. A fenced area is required for safety and convenience.
When acquiring a pup from us, he/she will be ready to come to you at approximately 7-10 weeks of age. Golden Endeavors personally invites you to visit or call anytime, whether you plan to buy a pup, hire us for some training and showing, or are just starting your puppy search & doing “homework”. We do ask that you come visit a week or two before our dam whelps or after the pups are a few weeks old. Lastly, no matter from whom you buy, don’t go to a pet shop and always ask for proof of health clearances (gladly provided by responsible breeders).
